Reason for becoming a colon hydrotherapist

My early twenties where particularly significant in shaping my future as a complementary therapist and colon hydrotherapist.  After three bouts of severe food poisoning, I was left with IBS.  After realising there was nothing conventional medicine could do for me, I turned to complementary therapies to find relief and manage the condition. My job as an events and advertising executive was also particularly stressful which didn't help.

I decided that there was more to life and something had to change.

I left my job and trained in Holistic Therapy, being in the right place and the right time enabled me to train in Colon Hydrotherapy. I've never looked back and now I love my job!

Any success stories you would like to share

I like to think that somehow every treatment for every patient is in some way a success for them.  Sometimes it is helping alleviate or improve general digestive problems, supporting them though a detox, giving a little (or a lot) of information to enable them to improve their own health and other times it is more dramatic in clearing severe impaction, parasites and chronic Candida.

The ultimate success for me is seeing positive changes, however big or small, for my patients.

Can you give one tip for a successful business?

Be authentic and do what works for you.

Gemma Nelson purityhealth.org Holistic Therapist Dubai

For many colon hydrotherapists, we are our own brand, so let “you” shine through. The clients who are suited to your style, area of expertise and professional manner will come to you, and those who aren’t, won’t.  Don’t try and be what you are not, know your capabilities and limitations and refer to other experts, where necessary.  Ultimately, work hard and do what comes naturally.  Keep a check of yourself and remind yourself why you chose to do your job and go into business in the first place.  Success for everyone is measured differently.

What do you do to relax?

I’m lucky in that I live in a warm sunny climate and I love to simply go and sit out in the sunshine or go to the beach.

Recently, I’ve been making the time to have a regular massage or reflexology treatment and this has been wonderful.

I also love outdoor running and yoga for exercise and relaxation, which gives me time and space to clear my mind and reenergise.

How do you have fun?

I do have a fairly busy social life and love to meet up with friends.  I tend to have a lot of visitors who come and stay which gives me opportunity to find and plan new fun things to do.

In Dubai, there is certainly no lack of amazing restaurants, bars and beach resorts to go to.

I love to travel and visit new places to tick off the list.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?

I currently live in Dubai with my husband, we've only been here 9 months and I love it.  So in 5 years time... I keep a very open mind as to what can happen, it comes with experience in saying that sometimes opportunities come when you least expect them.

I'm currently growing another side to my business...

I'm a fertility and pregnancy reflexologist, I offer baby massage, baby reflexology and I'm soon to be baby yoga instructor!

I'm excited for the future, to be managing and developing my business in whatever way it grows and helping as many people as possible to design their healthier future naturally.
