My Personal Journey to Health and Wellness
Why I switched from a career in advertising to retrain in holistic therapy
In my early twenties, three unlucky bouts of food poisoning left me living with severe symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).
After endoscopies, colonoscopies, the dreaded laxative picolax and a confusing list of foods to avoid, I was still getting no relief. There was nothing conventional medicine could do for me, so in desperation I turned to alternative therapies.
The results were so profound that I felt compelled to leave my job in advertising and re-train in Holistic Therapy. Something told me it was something I just had to do. It did seem a bit crazy at the time, leaving a and 'steady' and relatively well paid 'career' once on that path, but I trusted my instincts (despite being nervous about it!) and well, here I am.
Professional training
I studied and practiced in the UK and now Dubai to the highest level for over a decade with leading associations and Natural Health Practitioners including Fertility Specialists, Acupuncturists, Nutritionists, Naturopaths and Fitness Trainers in the regions.
During my training with an ARCH approved colon hydrotherapy training college, I had regular reflexology and colon hydrotherapy treatments and the benefits I experienced were life-changing.
Accreditation
I'm a registered therapist with the Federation of Holistic Therapists (FHT), The Association and Register of Colonic Hydrotherapists (ARCH) and International Association and Register of Integrative Colon Therapists and Trainers (RICTAT).
I've been fortunate to work with some of the top clinics and practitioners in Europe, including:
- Natural Practices Clinic, Cheshire, UK
- The Fertility Specialists, Cheshire & Manchester, UK
- Jason Vale’s Juicy Oasis in Portugal
Moving to Dubai
In 2013, I moved my practice (and husband) to Dubai and am blessed to work alongside highly professional practitioners, medical specialists and health and wellness partners in the UAE.
I currently practice from The American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery Hospital located in the Dubai Health Care City (DHCC).
My Personal Health Routine
People often say to me, "What do you eat?" and "Your diet must be perfect!"
Of course, I try my best to practice what I preach, but I'm certainly not perfect!
I wrote a blog post about my ideal daily/ weekly health routine, including what I eat, drink, holistic practices and exercise. If you read it, I'd love to know what you think in the comments below the blog.
I'm happy to say that this work never feels like a ‘job’ to me, I really do count myself lucky that I get to do work that I’m truly inspired by. So many people ask me how on earth I do it, because they couldn’t think of anything worse!
I never thought in a million years I would end up doing this, but in 8 years practicing, I have never looked back.
I love my job!
